You're a brand-new college freshman who's just arrived at your new dorm room, and there's a lot to do. Between unpacking your bags and introducing yourself to your new dormmates, it's important to take the time to locate the best pizza delivery options near your dorm. 

Let's face it, you're going to need fuel for those late-night study sessions, and it's not always going to be convenient to cook for yourself. Take a look at some pizza ordering tips that will get you off to a good start in your new home.

1. Make Sure That You Specify Your Location

Sure, the drivers employed by a pizza place located near a college campus are probably going to know their way around campus pretty well. But a big campus can still be confusing, and you want to make sure that your deliveries don't get delayed. When you place your order, give the restaurant the name of your building as well as the address, and make sure that they have a good phone number for you as well.

2. Designate a Pick-Up Spot

College campuses tend to have limited parking spaces, and on many campuses, the doors to dorm buildings are locked at night. The driver will bring the pizza to your building, but you're probably going to have to come out of your room to get it.

Specify where you want to pick up your pizza, whether that's in the lobby, outside the front doors, or some other spot. Make sure that you're waiting at the designated spot so that your pizza doesn't sit there getting cold while the driver waits for you. Bring your ID with you so the driver can verify that they're giving their pizza to the right person.

3. Ask for a Discount

Student discounts are common, especially among businesses that serve college campuses. Don't be afraid to ask if you can get a student discount! You're already paying a lot of money for tuition and dorm fees; there's no reason why you shouldn't save a little money on pizza delivery if you can.

4. Don't Forget to Tip

Another good reason to save money on the price of the pizza is that you will want to make sure that you have enough cash left for a decent tip. Plan to tip at least $3 for an order that costs less than $20 total. If your order costs more than $20, tip 20% for great service, plus a little extra if the driver is working in bad weather or delivering more than 3 miles from their store.

Delivery drivers will remember who tips and who doesn't, and you're probably going to be ordering from the same pizza place repeatedly during your time in the dorm, so make it worth their while. They'll be motivated to give your prompt service in the future.
